One Year alredy

//posted by Jerry Mika under Uncategorized | March 13th, 2008

Wow it has been one year since our Sherpa friends came to Utah. I would like to give everyone a update on their progress and how everyone is adjusting. I am very proud of these families. The children have adjusted very well.

Apa’s children are doing very well. Pemba a Jr in High school is a 3.8 honor role student and just received his drivers license and he has a PT job. Dawa is in 7th grade and she is a 4.0 student along with the first from her village of Thame to learn how to play the piano. Dawa won first place at her recital at the University of Utah we are very proud of her. Tenzing is attending college and doing very well plus working a job he also has a drivers license. Apa’s wife Yangjin has been studying English and we are very proud of her she is doing very well and works at Snowbird Ski resort for the past year.

Lhakpa Gelu and his family are also doing well. Ang Dawa is Jr in High school and he has a 3.6 grade point average and he works PT with Pemba at a local grocery store. Mingma Tashi is in 4th grade a 3.8 grade aveage and will be singing in her first concert next week Tashi has a wonderful voice and wants to be the next American Idol keep those dreams alive. Nima Naru is in 6th grade and he has a heart of gold he works very hard on his homework. Fuli  Lhakpas wife is also working at Snowbird Ski resort with Yangjin.

Both families are adjusting to the fast paced living in the US. Both Apa and Lhakpa and their wives really miss their homes in Nepal. They see how well their children are doing and this makes them very proud and they know one day they will be able to return knowing they have done everything they can for their families to be successful.

Apa and Lhakpa have been speaking at schools and telling their wonderful stories. The students at each event see how hard it has been for them and they have a better prespective of how the real Sherpas survive in this new world they are living in. Keep up the hard work guy’s.
